Thai Tiger Challenge

I thought I might set you a small challenge this weekend based around the words “Thai Tiger.”  I have come up with a list of things associated with Thailand in some way using these words.  The challenge for you is to try and beat my effort.

I started off by thinking of Thailand and how the economy particularly in the 90′s was referred to as a  Tiger economy.  So that’s Thai Tiger Economy for my first one on the list.

Now I don’t know whether you know it but this year in Thailand it is the year of the Tiger, so my number two would be Thai (year of the) Tiger.

If you keep abreast of the news here you might like me then come up with Thai Tiger Airways which is a planned new budget airline that involves Tiger Airways and Thai International working together.  Flights are expected to start next year.

Anyone who has ever been bitten by a mosquito in Thailand might well think of my next offering since applying Thai Tiger Balm to the bite usually stops the itching and brings relief.  Just be careful what you handle next after the application.

Tourists and expats alike may well have visited the Thai Tiger Temple near Kanchanaburi where of course you can see the Asian or Thai Tiger. In fact you can get really up close and personal to the beasts who some say are drugged.

One of my favourite sea-foods is prawns and here in Thailand there is a massive prawn that you can usually find in sea-side restaurants. I first tried my Thai Tiger Prawn back in 2000 on my first holiday to the country which I foolishly consumed the night before I flew home. Fortunately I was sitting near the facilities on my flight. Just be a little wary of any shell fish in Thailand.

One of the favourite tattoos that people get in Thailand is a Thai Tiger Tattoo, said to give them power and virility as well as protection from evil.

Talking about evil things also got me another Thai Tiger for my list, the Thai Tiger Tarantula, found in Asia and I assume Thailand is said to be an aggressive species of this spider.

My final entry is Thai Tiger Beer, which is the Thai brewed version of the world famous brand that originates in Singapore. I suppose it really ought to be first on my list seeing as how I was sipping one when I thought up this post.

OK over to you,   I make that ten uses of “Thai Tiger.”  Can you do better?

Do I get a point for half Thai Tiger Woods.

Martyn very good, seeing as he is half Thai :-) There is at least one other Thai tiger I can think of, only you would have to use the old word for Thailand. I should also add good morning, I see you are up early again.

Stretching it a bit maybe but how about ‘child tiger’ which is the literal translation of boy scout in Thai, ลูกเสือ.
There is also an amphur of Thailand in Ubon Ratchathani province called Lao Suea Kok, (‘suea’ being Thai for tiger) and one called Nong Suea (tiger swamp) in Pathum Thani province.

Dan nice one about the scouts because if I remember correctly the scout movement here came about as an off shoot of an adult organisation (sort of reserve army) called Thai Tigers.

The photo at the top of the post is from outside a Tiger temple near me, Wat Nong Suea. I hadn’t heard of the Amphur but I bet there are others too.

Mike, I can’t get past Tiger beer although I do recall something about a small football league somewhere near me called the Thai Tigers….not sure though.

Talen sounds good to me, I don’t follow local football so I don’t know if they exist.

Thank you Malcolm, guess we could call that eye of the Thai Tiger :-)

Tiger beer is also high on my list…………………………….
    Here’s one;

Tears of the Black Tiger (Thai: ฟ้าทะลายโจร, or Fah talai jone, literally, “the heavens strike the thief”) is a 2000 Thai western film written and directed by Wisit Sasanatieng. The story of a tragic romance between Dum, a fatalistic, working-class hero, who has become an outlaw, and Rumpoey, the upper-class daughter of a provincial governor, it is equal parts homage to and parody of Thai action films and romantic melodramas of the 1950s and 1960s.

Thanks Camille. I’m not a Thai film fan although I get to see plenty at home on the TV :-)

This may not count, as it’s not in Thailand…Thai Tiger Restaurant http://www.thaitiger.com.au/
